Amritsar- founded 400 years ago by the fourth sikh guru Ram das Amritsar, it is Punjab’s largest city. The Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs is here.

Amritsar, as the name suggests, is rightfully pool of nectar. Located in the State of Punjab, Amritsar is one of the most important places of pilgrimage, especially for the Sikhs in the country. Amritsar city in the northern state of Punjab in northwestern India, located about 15 miles (25 km) east of the border with Pakistan. Amritsar is an important city in Punjab and is the most important commercial, cultural and transportation center. It is also the center of the Sikh religion and Sikh is a place of worship.
The city is characterized by some of you to visit religious, historical and current significance of the sites. Amritsar is home to Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, where Sikhs from all over the world to pay their respects to Guru Granth Sahib and take a bath is known in the Amrit Saras (Pool immortality) for spiritual purification, a major milestone of the place. The city is a popular and well known known for its cuisine and culture. Amritsar is also home to Central Khalsa Orphanage, once home to Shaheed Udham Singh, a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement.
Places of Interest and Must to Visit:
Golden Temple: located in the heart of the city, one of the most visited tourist place of Amritsar. Of its four entrance doors (Characterized deoris) in all four directions and elegant sanctuary of art and architecture, the Golden Temple welcomes everyone regardless of religion or faith one follows. A stunning sanctuary in the shimmering water holy tank, by spotlessly clean marble walkways and pavements flanked it is breathtakingly beautiful.
Jalianwallah Bagh: Historic Monument, which tells the sad story of mass killings during the independence movement in India, Jalianwallah Bagh is another must visit in this city. It is a monument to the martyr’s 1919 massacre of British General Dyer. At present is the place of a park. Martyr’s gallery is open daily from 9 clocks to 5 clocks in summer and from 10 clocks to 4 hours in winter.
Durgiana Temple: In addition, there is a beautiful temple dedicated to Hindu goddess Durga. Easily accessible from the Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir Puja offering to deities Lakshmi and Narayana. It was probably during the 16th Century, the temple in the middle of the lake give the center a beautiful panorama. Attari -Wagah Border: One of the many places close to visit Amritsar, the Wagah border, is located on the Indo-Pakistan border, 28 km from the main city. A good number of visitors to this site and to see a change of guards ceremony and flag-raising and reducing activities with great skill and precision to be taken of the border security forces of both countries. Sites can not afford to miss, too.
Summer place of Maharaja Ranjit Singh: is located at amidst a beautiful garden called Ram bagh in Amritsar City. This garden is on the structure of Shalimar Bagh at its architecturally unique in Lahore. Only it’s architecturally unique ‘darshani deorhi’ has remained intact. Museum of the name of the Maharaja is displayed here; paintings, miniatures, coins, weapons and MSS relating to the Sikh.
Darbar Saheb: Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee’s temple, they discovered their spiritual essence. What he has designed and constructed, not structures, but an idea to convert the visible form. Gurudwara Tarn Taran: Located within a distance of 25 km from Amritsar, Tarn Taran is a famous destination. It is one of the important place and major holy tank that is believed to have healing powers. Devotees who will believe that if a leper successfully swims in a tank, he can heal them, or the disease. The highly revered Gurudwara Tarn Taran result Arjan Dev in 1768. This Gurudwara is in memory of Guru Ram Das built.
Gobindwal Sahib: Located in a distance of 30 km from Amritsar, Gobindwal Sahib is another place to visit during his tour of Amritsar. You can also the final resting place of Guru Angad Devji, which stands nearby.
Amanat Khan Palace: is known famous for its ornamental gateway and tile decorations. This palace is must to see, located within a distance of 38 km from Amritsar.
Baba Bakala: located at a distance of 45 km from Amritsar, Baba Bakala is an important place to visit. A magnificent Gurudwara here is dedicated to the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur.
Kiratpur Sahib: was established in 1627 by the 6th Nanak, Guru Hargobind, is also associated with the memory of a Muslim saint, Pir Buddan Shah who was gifted with a very long life (legends say about 800 years). It is located on the bank of the Sutlej about 10 km south of Anandpur, about 30 km north of Rupnagar and 90 Kms from Chandigarh on the Nangal-Rupnagar-Chandigarh road (NH21).
